Today I smell like salad,
and I feel so chic. I would like to point out that this is just Umbrian salad washed in ice-cold water. This is in fact the amazing fragrance that a mysterious perfumer customized for my laundry last week in the luxurious SPA of the Four Season Hotel in Milan. I love doing the laundry, and after seeing the new wonderful Samsung washing machine, I do nothing but dream of having it in my house. The truth is that I strongly hope that Samsung Luxury Avenue will never end. Are you wondering what I’m talking about? Everything started two weeks ago when a talented fashion photographer, with the support of the most benevolent stylist I have ever known, revolutionized my look for a shooting. Surrounded by lots of flowers (you can imagine the smell), gummy candy, bubblegum and colored bottles, I have been photographed in front of the new Samsung refrigerator. That, my dear fashion tasters, was just the beginning, because after a few hours I was sitting at an impeccable table with unique people and it was a beautiful evening, extraordinarily engaging and exciting. If I turned to my right, I could speak with the chef Davide Oldani and advise him on how to take the next Michelin star (I’m being ironic). If I turned to my left, I could explain to Luca Argentero (the Italian actor) how to improve his smile (I’m joking of course). I spoke about homemade pasta with Chiara Maci (Italian food blogger) and then about fashion with my dear Diana. After having experienced all this, how can I not wish that the Samsung Luxury Avenue continues forever? I am glad to know that there are two other events in which I am going to participate very soon (and where I’ll finally see the famous air conditioner), but in the meantime I’m preparing this delicious drink for tonight’s dinner, which will be full of boring guests.
Recipe. FOR 6 PEOPLE
1/2 bottle of champagne + 500ml (18 fl oz) juice of freshly squeezed pink grapefruit + 100g (3.5 oz) sugar + 1 tablespoon of fresh lime juice.
Take a pot and pour the sugar in half a liter of water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar is completely dissolved. When the mixture begins to boil, remove from heat and let cool. Once the mixture has cooled completely, add the champagne, pink grapefruit juice and lime juice. Pour the mixture into a freezer-safe container. Freeze for about 1 hour and then, using a fork, scrape and stir to break up ice crystals that have formed. Return the granita to the freezer until firm, for 8-12 hours, occasionally scraping and stirring with a fork. To serve, spoon the granita into small chilled glasses (or if you want to be chic, use champagne glasses). Serve immediately.
