Alice Agnelli

The PR of Stella McCartney and author of the blog ottalovemuffin has a gipsy nature. Her name is Alice, a girl full of energy, an eternal dreamer with a soul full of tenderness and good intentions for the future. When “Alice looks at the cats and the cats look at the sun, while the world is turning without haste,” I look at Alice and I see Christmas. Her happiness is contagious and her house looks like a little piece of the Land of Toys or, in order to stick to the subject, of Wonderland. You know what I love most about her? She is able to always make you feel at ease with her thoughtfulness, and this is really important to me. Inspired by her Stella McCartney outfit, I created two cream soups that are a bit like her. The first one, a cream of purple cabbage soup, represents the most delicate notes of her soul with its sweet aftertaste. The second one, a cream of spicy tomato soup prepared with Worcester sauce, represents Alice’s strongest and unpredictable aspect of her character. I love “double favours”, especially after I spoke with a famous chef who told me that it is a great technique to create surprising combinations. This recipe is dedicated to all those who want to surprise. And while “Alice looks at the cats and the cats run into the sun as the sun makes love with the moon,” I start to prepare the ingredients.

Recipe. FOR 4 PEOPLEFor the cream of purple cabbage soup. 1/2 purple cabbage + 1/2 chopped onion + 250 ml (8.5 fl oz) water + olive oil + salt + pepper.

For the cream of spicy tomato soup. 2 round tomatoes + 200g (7 oz) organic crushed tomato + 1 clove garlic, minced + 1 teaspoon crushed chili pepper + 1 teaspoon parsley + 125 ml (4 fl oz) water + Worcester sauce + pepper + extra virgin olive oil.

For the cream of purple cabbage soup. Wash the cabbage and chop coarsely. In a large pot, sauté half a chopped onion with a tablespoon of olive oil. Then add the cabbage and 125 ml (4 fl oz) of water. Let soften, add the remaining water, cover with a lid and cook on low heat for about 15 minutes. Blend with an immersion blender until creamy. Add a tablespoon of olive oil and cook for another 5 minutes. Set aside and prepare the cream of spicy tomato soup.

For the cream of spicy tomato soup. In a large pot, sauté the garlic and crushed chili pepper. Then add the diced tomatoes and the organic crushed tomato. Stir. Add 125 ml (4 fl oz) of water, parsley, a tablespoon of olive oil and cover with a lid. Cook on low heat for about 15 minutes. Blend everything with an immersion blender, add 30 ml (1 fl oz) of Worcester sauce and continue cooking for another 5 minutes. If the cream becomes too thick, add a little water, but be careful not to dilute it too much.

Serve alternating a layer of cream of purple cabbage soup to a layer of cream of spicy tomato soup. Great to serve as an appetizer, to be served in glass jars.

Who are you and what do you do?

Alice, Stella McCartney’s PR and author of the blog “ottalovemuffin”.

What’s your favourite book?

Restaurant of Love Regained by Ito Ogawa. I read it at least five times and it’s never enough. It’s a book that represents me, made of perfumes and a lot of love. It ‘very sweet and wonderful. It teaches you to learn the art of the kitchen step by step.

Your eyes are shining now. What are you holding in your hands?

My grandmother Irma’s necklace. When I hold it I feel protected and comforted.

Collana di perle

You came in with a notebook under your arm. What is it?

It’s my book of recipes! Many newspaper clippings taken here and there and glued to the pages of the book. I hope that the day will come when I have time to cook. They are not ordered in a logical sense. They are random. Just like me. I’m a rather forgetful person. (…Alice smiles).
