JIL SANDER SS 2011 / MARINATED GRILLED PRAWNS

Jun 27, 2011 in FASHION IN FOOD SS 2011 | 0 Comments

Taste of Runway presents: Jil Sander - marinated grilled prawns

Being at Jil Sander fashion show was really exciting. The colors (bright, deep, fluorescent) and the hitchcockian Psyco-style sound-track, created a wonderful atmosphere. I’ve chosen one of my favorite outfits (an orange skirt with a basque jacket, to wear with a simple white t-shirt), so I can’t help but present one of my favorite dishes: marinated grilled prawns. They are simple, quick to make and impressive. If I think about it, prawns are exactly like the Jil Sander outfit: apparently they look impressive to us like the skirt, but then cooking them is as simple as a white t-shirt. I often go to the market with Miranda and I can say that it’s easy to find high quality fish to cook a very special dinner. When you eat these prawns, you’ll taste the contrast between their sweet aftertaste and the spicy dried chili peppers we used to marinade. It’s a dish I cook often, because it makes the people I love happy, and that fills my heart with joy. How much love is in the kitchen and in the effort that we put into cooking?

CÉLINE SS 11 / PEA SOUP WITH MINT

Taste of Runway presents: Céline - pea soup with mint

As you may have guessed, I liked the Céline Spring/Summer collection a lot. I appreciate the designer’s work, Phoebe Philo, and her idea of a sophisticated and essential woman. The outfit I’ve chosen is so pure in shape that it calls to mind an absolute elegance. A man-cut blouse with a calf-length tube skirt. What else? I couldn’t do anything but creating a refined recipe, with a delicate taste, to serve in a rigorously white soup tureen. I’ve chosen peas, which are full of carbohydrates, proteins, fibers and mineral salts. They are excellent for diets. If you don’t care about diets, though, but you still want something light for dinner and you love to dip crostini in your soup, remember to toast the bread in the oven. Then season it with salt, pepper and extra virgin olive oil.

MARNI SS 2011 / OLIVE OIL AND LEMON SPAGHETTI

Taste of Runway presents: Marni - olive oil and lemon spaghetti

This vibrant and colorful outfit of the Marin Spring/Summer collection make me immediately think of a lemon. That’s why today I’ve cooked a very simple dish that I learned of a few years ago, during a vacation in Sicily, a land full of sweet-smelling citrus trees and colors that leave you breathless. So true, the simplest things are the best. You know when you suddenly realize that the coat you gave to your friend now would fit you so well? Or when you think how beautiful those shoes are, the ones you bought 2 years ago and decided to put away? Well, that’s more or less what happened with this pasta. A dish which I discovered by chance, after a lifetime using lemon in tea, for fruit, meat or fish. But never with pasta! A special thanks to the fabulous restaurant on one of the Aeolian Islands for making me rediscover the joy of simplicity! A quick recipe that saved me on more than one occasion.
